Biography:
“Photography was one of my dreams that, fortunately, has come true. My journey began at Ar.Co where I studied photography and, afterwards, as a professional photographer, in the Portuguese newspaper, DN. However, I’ve always felt unfulfilled. I found it not very attractive to photograph politics, entrepreneurs and other public personalities with whom I had, most of the times, no sympathy at all. Then, I worked in advertising, which offered me great human experiences and accounted for professional enrichment, although the recollection of those days still reveals a mismatch between my ideals and the ones that must guide professionals of that field. I needed to find out what really interested me and what would actually fit my profile. It was when I left to discover the world. I spent the 90’s traveling around, approximately, one hundred countries, performing photography reportages and deepening unforgettable human experiences. I used to come to Portugal once in a while to publish work, catch up with family and friends and lecturing photography courses. From the many experiences that have marked me, the most significant were living among indigenous tribes, photographing in the middle of a war scenario, visiting His Holiness the Dalai Lama, sleeping inside the Amazon rainforest, tasting the magic of Machu Pichu and feeling the peace of Laos. In fact, from all places I’ve been to, those who awed me most were Tibet, Laos, Vanuatu, India and the Amazon. The Amazon rainforest was, perhaps, the most interesting paradise I’ve visited up to now. From that rich experience emerged this photography book and also the summary of my odyssey at the Amazon end, in the book’s last pages. “ Nuno Alexandre Tavares Barcelos Guerreiro Lobito, in Hidden Amazon

Comments:
He is a hiker of the world, has visited all four corners of the globe, bringing us, with uncommon sensitivity, strong images that so often we prefer not to see or avoid with an hypocrite eye, jogged at the table of a pseudo-cultured coffee talk. Nuno Costa Historian _______________________________ This passionate photographer, citizen of the world, who has belonged to fashion, advertising, day-to-day journalism with politicians with whom very seldom shared some sympathy, leaves us this photography file, so important, adding one more link in the chain of solidarity and respect for the cause of the Amazon people and ethnical minorities spread throughout the world, who need our solidary shout. José Soudo Photography teacher at Ar.Co _______________________________ An artist that jeopardizes his comfort and many times his own life is, in fact, a remarkable artist. As for the pictures illustrating page after page, not only they offer us beautiful paintings of the luxurious Amazon vegetation but also set us face to face, in his daily life, with the men, women and children from that distant tribe with whom this Portuguese photographer has entered into very affectionate relationship and deep human respect. Very recommendable. Mário Braga Census Taker, 2000 _____________________________________
The web site of the Portuguese photographer of whom I speak is www.nlphotographer.com. It is really impressive, not only for the quality of the work but also for the countries he has been to... his trips make us envious... his pictures speak by themselves. _____________________________________
It seems like his eyes and his camera merge, in order to accomplish these great pictures. This is difficult to achieve, necessary and indispensable to surprise and fascinate, and he does it. (...) He is a passionate photographer, body and soul, and we know it when we get to see his fantastic pictures. What else can I say? Excellent! That’s the perfect word.
